DITZINGEN, Germany, Oct. 16, 2014 — Profits for industrial laser maker The Trumpf Group shot up 61.2 percent in fiscal 2014, thanks to increased sales and acquisitions.

The company reported earnings before taxes of €248 million (about $316.4 million), compared to €154 million (about $196.5 million) in fiscal 2013. Revenues were €2.587 billion (about $3.3 billion), the highest figure in the more than 90-year history of the company. Compared to the previous year's sales of €2.343 billion, this represents an increase of 10.4 percent.

Orders rose by 16 percent to €2.70 billion (about $3.4 billion) from €2.33 billion the previous year. As of June 30 the company employed 10,914 people worldwide, 10 percent more than the previous year.

The company said fiscal 2014 acquisitions — the largest of which was Chinese machine tool manufacturer Jiangsu Jinfangyuan CNC Machine Company Ltd. — helped drive profits.

Meanwhile this year, Trumpf has acquired majority stakes in the machine tool software firm India Metamation Software Pvt. Ltd. and, earlier this week, distributor KOZ Makina Sanayi ve Dis Ticaret AS in Turkey.
