UK College Receives Space Simulator

To calibrate a satellite device that will be used for detecting infrared emissions and solar radiation from space, a team of researchers from Imperial College in London has received a space simulator system from Kurt J. Lesker Co. Ltd. of Hastings, UK.
The space simulator system will be used to test the college's three-mirror infrared telescope, which features a 256-element linear thermal detector array. The calibration system will manage different radiation sources in a vacuum environment, designed to simulate conditions in space. Scientists plan to launch the Media SAT Second Generation Satellite in January 1999.
