In Glasgow, UK, Iris-3D Ltd., a 3-D imaging systems spin-out of the University of Strathclyde, has won a start-up award from the Synergy Fund, according to an announcement from Scottish Equity Partners (SEP). The funding includes backing from the university and the company's founders, and a SMART award. It will be used to work on miniaturizing the company's real-time imaging systems for integration into a variety of scanning and imaging devices, using data from optics and computed tomography, MRI, x-ray and ultrasound machines.

A university challenge fund managed by SEP, the Synergy Fund receives investments from the UK's Department of Trade and Industry and the Universities of Glasgow and Strathclyde.
