CHARLOTTE, N.C., Oct. 26, 2013 — UTC Aerospace Systems has been awarded two follow-on contracts worth approximately $255 million to supply the US Army with laser warning systems, the company announced this week.

Charlotte-based UTC Aerospace, a unit of United Technologies Corp. of Hartford, Conn., was awarded a five-year contract worth up to $208.5 million for AN/AVR-2B(V) laser detecting sets and associated parts and services. The company also received a five-year contract worth as much as $47 million for spares and components of the laser detecting sets. Both contracts are follow-ons to an initial five-year contract awarded to Goodrich in 2007.

“Our team is pleased to continue our outstanding relationship with the United States Army to provide our service men and women with this vital protection system,” said Andreas Nonnenmacher, general manager of the ISR Systems unit. “These contracts allow for the continuing development of this critical technology for future operational requirements.”

The AN/AVR-2B(V) aviation laser warning systems is smaller and lighter than the previous version, uses less power, and demonstrates enhanced performance, reliability and maintainability, the company said. It detects rangefinders, target designators and beam rider laser-aided weapon systems, and is capable of multiple aircraft signal interfaces.

To date, the company has delivered more than 10,000 aviation and ground laser warning systems to the US and other armed forces around the world, UTC Aerospace said.
