Vector Photonics Adds Chief Product Officer, Refeyn Appoints CEO: People in the News: 10/4/2023

GLASGOW, Scotland — Vector Photonics appointed Bill Ring to it executive team as chief product officer. Ring previously held senior roles at HP, Tyco Electronics, Solar Systems, Poet Technologies, and Voyant. He is also the first employee of Vector’s U.S. subsidiary, Vector Photonics Inc.

OXFORD, England — Refeyn, a life science instrumentation company and developer of mass photometry instruments, appointed Gerry Mackay CEO effective Jan. 1, 2024. Mackay served as CEO of BioOutsource from 2009 to 2015, and before that as a member of Sartorius AG’s executive board and head of its laboratory products division.

VILNIUS, Lithuania — Thermal imaging devices developer Yukon Advanced Optics Worldwide appointed Volha Alsheuskaya CEO. Alsheuskaya will be taking over for CFO Laurius Kairys who has been acting as temporary CEO. In 2023, the group added Alsheuskaya as its head of administrative and legal department prior to this appointment.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — U.S. Rep. Joseph Morelle has been recognized as the 2023 Advocate of Optics by Optica. The award is given out annually by the Optica Public Affairs Council to a public official who demonstrates leadership in support of the advancement of light science. Morelle, who has held his seat in New York’s 25th district since 2018, is a founding member of the Congressional Optics and Photonics Caucus.

NEUCHÂTEL, Switzerland — Swiss innovation center CSEM named Sara Girardi CFO. Girardi succeeds succeed André Laville, who will step down in March. Girardi previously served as finance director for Otis SA, Fribourg, and started her career as an external auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers SA in 2005.

CORK, Ireland — Stefan Andersson-Engels was awarded €5.3 million ($5.5 million) through the SFI Research Professorship Programme, which will underpin the Biophotonics Group at Tyndall National Institute for the next five years. The objective of Andersson-Engels’ project is to use properties of light for diagnostic purposes such as gastrointestinal diagnostics for malignancies and inflammatory bowel diseases, in vivo oral cancer delineation, and diagnosis.

BRISBANE, Calif. — Cutera Inc. appointed Brent Hauser as president, international. Hauser will be responsible for commercial performance in existing international markets, expansion into new geographies, and the international launch of AviClear, the company’s energy-based device for the treatment of mild to severe acne. Hauser started his career in the laser aesthetics industry at Solta Medical and most recently served as senior vice president of global sales for InBrace.

CHICAGO — Augmented reality surgical navigation developer Augmedics appointed Tal Davidson vice president of R&D. Davidson most recently held the position of AI research director and site lead for Medtronic’s Visionsense, which is developing intraoperative visualization and AI opportunities in minimally invasive surgery.

BETHESDA, Md. — Ted Mao, CTO of Evercloak, assumed a two-year term as president of the International Ultraviolet Association.
