Visionary.ai and Innoviz Partner on 3D Machine Vision Performance

Visionary.ai, a developer of software-based image signal processor (ISP) technology, and Innoviz, a provider of high-performance, automotive-grade lidar sensors and perception software, have established a partnership to combine Visionary.ai’s imaging technology with Innoviz’s lidar sensors and perception software. Combined, the two technologies aim to improve 3D machine vision performance for a wide range of applications, including robotics, smart cities, and drones.

Using Innoviz’s high-resolution lidar, the partnership will add 3D image processing to Visionary.ai’s advanced 2D ISP capabilities to develop and enhance a comprehensive 3D image of a scene. The combination of technologies will enable imaging under challenging conditions, such as extreme low light, high dynamic range, heavy rain or fog, high motion, and sudden changes in intensity, such as flashing headlights.
Prior to its collaboration with Visionary.ai, Innoviz in January announced Innoviz360 for full automation in scale for L4-L5 automotive applications as well as applications beyond the automotive space. The company expects samples of the lidar architecture to be available later in 2022. Courtesy of Innoviz.

Visionary.ai received an initial round of $4.5 million in funding in February 2021, which it followed with an additional $2.5 million in February this year. The company unveiled its ISP at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this year.

Innoviz this year announced Innoviz360, a patent-pending lidar architecture featuring 360° × 64° coverage, 0.05° × 0.05° resolution, and up to 1280 scanning lines and 300-m range. It expects samples of Innoviz360 HD LiDAR to be available in the fourth quarter of 2022, the company said in January.

GLOSSARY
lidar
An acronym of light detection and ranging, describing systems that use a light beam in place of conventional microwave beams for atmospheric monitoring, tracking and detection functions. Ladar, an acronym of laser detection and ranging, uses laser light for detection of speed, altitude, direction and range; it is often called laser radar.
machine vision
Interpretation of an image of an object or scene through the use of optical noncontact sensing mechanisms for the purpose of obtaining information and/or controlling machines or processes.
