ROCHESTER, N.Y., Aug. 3, 2022 — Rochester, N.Y.-based AR and smart glasses provider Vuzix inked an agreement with L3Harris Technologies to develop a custom waveguide-based optics engine for use in headborne systems for military applications. The agreement is part of a phased effort designed to address a broad market for U.S. and allied military personnel, the companies said.

The waveguide-based devices will use a high-brightness, high-index waveguide design with a wide field of view to provide a lightweight see-through display producing clear images in adverse conditions.

The phased development will enhance daytime AR capabilities of existing L3Harris products, said Matthew Renzi, senior director of engineering at L3Harris. Vuzix will develop and deliver the prototypes during 2022.
