SINGAPORE, May 31, 2011 — A glasses-free 3-D autostereoscopic display system by Zecotek Photonics Inc. has been granted a patent by the US Patent and Trademark Office.

Patent No. 7,944,465 covers the use of equipment for reproducing static and moving 3-D stereo representations, and for recording and transmitting stereo representations of 3-D scenes.

The display system is based on the autostereoscopic principle but with substantial innovation, the company said. The system can present 2- and 3-D images simultaneously, and to multiple users using the same screen; separate views and angles are possible also.

The company says that the system, which offers a wide field of view, does not create eyestrain or require any supplementary means such as glasses. Zecotek Photonics also asserts that the viewer’s position with respect to the display is not drastically limited.

The company has received patents for its 3-D display system in Australia as well. Patents have been filed and are pending in Japan, China, South Korea, India, Russia and in certain European countries, it said.
