eMagin Nabs $1M OLED Microdisplay Contract
BELLEVUE, Wash., Feb. 6, 2012 — eMagin Corp. has received a $1.12 million Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract from the US Special Operations Command to optimize its WUXGA organic LED (OLED) microdisplay for mass production. The project includes a $435,000 option.
Under the contract, eMagin plans to make the 1920 × 1200-pixel OLED microdisplay more affordable for military and commercial applications. The display originally was funded through the US Army Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center. It is currently available as an engineering sample to commercial OEM customers and military contracts.
The SBIR project began this month and is scheduled for seven months, with an additional six-month option period to further optimize the display.
The company integrates high-resolution OLED microdisplays with magnifying optics to deliver virtual images comparable to large-screen computer and television displays in portable, low-power, lightweight personal displays.
