eMagin Ships OLED Deposition Machine

eMagin Corp. announced that its new proprietary organic LED (OLED) deposition machine was shipped from the manufacturer, SNU Precision Co. Ltd., and is scheduled to arrive at eMagin’s production facility in Hopewell Junction, N.Y., in early November.

The new machine is expected to increase OLED deposition capacity by approximately tenfold, to increase yield, and to contribute to a substantially more efficient, automated process with lower maintenance requirements and greater utilization. The $4 million tool will replace eMagin’s existing Satella OLED deposition system, a tool adapted and used by the company for both R&D and production since its inception in 1996.

With substantial production efficiencies expected, the company plans to use the machine to address its key domestic and international markets, such as military, industrial and consumer applications. Once the new machine is operating efficiently, the Satella machine will be used for R&D of new microdisplay products.

eMagin manufactures active-matrix OLED microdisplays for high-resolution imaging products.

light-emitting diode
An LED, or light emitting diode, is a semiconductor device that emits light when an electric current passes through it. LEDs are widely used in various applications due to their energy efficiency, compact size, and long operational life. The technology behind LEDs is based on the phenomenon of electroluminescence. Key characteristics and features of LEDs include: Electroluminescence: The process by which LEDs emit light is called electroluminescence. It involves the recombination of...
microdisplay
A microdisplay is a miniature electronic display technology that is designed to project visual information onto a small screen. Unlike traditional displays, microdisplays are typically very compact and often used in applications where size, weight, and power consumption are critical factors. These displays can be based on various technologies, including liquid crystal display (LCD), organic light-emitting diode (OLED), digital light processing (DLP), and others. Key characteristics and...
