Ultra-Stable Microscope Stages

The U-781 motorized XY stage system, an evolution of the U-780, brings the advantages of ultrasonic piezo motor technology to inverted microscopes. Developed for advanced imaging and super-resolution microscopy, it delivers precision, stability, and speed for SR-resolution fluorescence microscopy while maintaining a competitive price/performance ratio.
With a compact, low-profile design, the U-781 integrates direct-measuring encoders providing 10 nm resolution across a 128 × 86 mm travel range. Ultrasonic piezoceramic drives operate without gears or belts, eliminating backlash, minimizing vibration and heat, and ensuring excellent long-term stability. The stage achieves dynamics from 100 nm/s to 120 mm/s, enabling rapid positioning with short settling times and nanometer accuracy.
Patented control modes further enhance performance: Dual Frequency Drive delivers smooth, jerk-free motion with reduced noise, while Adaptive Parameter Control automatically adjusts drive settings based on trajectory. The self-locking direct-drive architecture prevents drift and servo jitter, supporting six decades of velocity range. The digital servo controller with automatic PID switching ensures settling times of only a few milliseconds.
Ergonomic features such as streamlined cabling and rounded edges improve usability, while compatibility with Nikon, Leica, Olympus, and Zeiss inverted microscopes guarantees flexibility.
The U-781 system includes a 2-axis digital controller, joystick, and comprehensive software suite with support for µ-Manager, Nikon NIS Elements, MatLab, LabView, Python, and PI MikroMove.
Accessories extend its versatility: sample holders for slides, well plates, and Petri dishes, plus piezo nanopositioning Z-stages such as the P-736 or P-545. When combined with the P-545 XYZ flexure stage, providing <1 nm closed-loop resolution, the U-781 becomes a powerful solution for super-resolution microscopy, single-molecule tracking, fast focusing, and optical trapping.
The U-781 delivers high-end performance, nanometer precision, and dynamic versatility — making advanced microscopy tools more accessible than ever.
