Edinburgh Instruments Installs Laser in Dresden High Magnetic Field Laboratory

Photonics Spectra
May 2017
Optical spectroscopy instrumentation developer Edinburgh Instruments Ltd. has installed its FIRL100 CO2/FIR (THz) laser system in the Dresden High Magnetic Field Laboratory (HLD) of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) German research facility to extend its frequency range.

An Edinburgh Instruments FIRL100 CO2/ FIR (THz) Laser system has been installed at the Dresden High Magnetic Field Laboratory (HLD) Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR).The FIRL-100 laser will be used for multi-frequency pulsed-field electron spin resonance spectroscopy of strongly correlated magnets including low-dimensional and frustrated spin systems, high-Tc superconductors, and related compounds and multiferroics, among other items.

The FIRL-100 features both CO2 pump laser and far-IR (FIR) cavity in an invar-stabilized, integrated head. CO2 laser lines in the spectral region of 9.1 to 10.9 μm are accessible via a movable mirror. The FIR laser output power is >150 mW at 118.8 µm with CH3OH gas. A handheld control unit is used for CO2 length control and for length control of the FIR cavity.

Edinburgh Instruments is a provider of analytical instrumentation for optical spectroscopy including a range of fluorescence spectrometers.
