Scientific CMOS CameraThe ORCA-Flash4.0 V3 scientific CMOS camera from Hamamatsu Corp. handles imaging applications ranging from the acquisition of scientific images to experiments that demand detection, quantification and speed.

The camera features 2048 x 2048 pixels and a pixel size of 6.5 x 6.5 μm. Its frame rate at full resolution is 40 or 100 fps, depending on the interface connection. It provides 82 percent peak quantum efficiency and low noise, as well as on-board field-programmable gate array processing for intelligent data reduction. Its highly refined in-camera and pixel-level calibrations based on individual camera noise characterizations enable high uniformity across the entire field of view. Other features include triggering capabilities and patented lightsheet readout modes.

Applications include lightsheet microscopy, single molecule imaging and super-resolution microscopy techniques.
