Nanopositioning ControllerThe E-754 nanopositioning controller from Physik Instrumente LP is designed for closed-loop piezo mechanisms with capacitive position feedback sensors.

The controller features an ultra-fast servo with a 50-kHz update rate and 22-bit resolution. In addition to proportional-integral-derivative control, two programmable notch filters are integrated for higher bandwidth by suppression of mechanical system resonances. Digital linearization is based on fourth order polynomials to suppress linearity deviation to <0.01 percent. The dynamic digital linearization firmware option eliminates phase lag and dynamic non-linearities at high operating frequencies such as those in scanning applications.

The driver provides 500-mA peak current and -30- to 135-V output voltage swing. ID chip compatibility allows for quick startup and interchangeability of controller and piezo mechanisms without recalibration, which is a critical feature for OEMs.
