AUBURN, Mass., Oct. 16, 2015 — Linear PositionerPI (Physik Instrumente) LP has announced the A-141 miniature air bearing linear positioner, featuring preloaded air bearings and an integral optical linear encoder.

The device has an overall height of 38 mm for use in small spaces. Smooth motion with no cogging or attractive forces is provided by ironless linear motors. Position information goes down to 20-nm resolution from integrated linear encoders. Linear motors reach velocities up to 0.5 m/s and acceleration to 0.75 g.

Applications include use in metrology, photonics alignment, semiconductors, flat panel displays, precision scanning and cleanroom tasks.
