Rotary Stage

Photonics Spectra
Feb 2016
Rotary StagePI (Physik Instrumente) LP has announced the Q-632 piezo inertia drive rotary stage with a 30-mm turntable diameter and a 360° rotation range.

The Q-632 delivers precision rotation with minimal incremental motion of 3 μrad in closed-loop operation and a velocity of 45° per second. The self-clamping motor design provides long-term power-off position-hold capabilities without the need for a brake. The stages are suitable for a vacuum to 10-6 hPa.

The drive is 32 mm wide and 7 mm high, available in open- and closed-loop versions. Stick-slip drive motors are powered by the natural difference in the static and dynamic friction coefficients found between two surfaces. This direct linear motion drive principle reduces the number of components that can degrade over time.
