Tibidabo Scientific Industries Acquires Photek, Names CTO

Feb 2021DUBLIN, Feb. 16, 2021 — Tibidabo Scientific Industries has acquired Photek Ltd., a manufacturer of image intensifiers, solar blind detectors, photomultipliers, streak tubes, and a range of associated electronics and camera systems.

Photek adds to Tibidabo’s portfolio of scientific imaging solutions, and grants the company access to complementary markets; its products support applications in high-energy physics, defense, chemistry, bioluminescence, space science, and biological inspection. Ninety percent of Photek’s sales are exported to international customers.
LaViola will lead the company’s technology strategy and research and development efforts, and will also oversee the company’s mergers and acquisitions execution and integration. Previously, LaViola served as vice president of business development at Photek, and in 2018 he assumed leadership for strategic innovation in Hologic Inc.’s Breast and Skeletal Health Solutions division where he was responsible for business acquisitions and strategy, as well as leading research and development efforts.
