Opterra Multipoint Confocal Microscope

BioPhotonics
Mar 2014
The Opterra multipoint scanning confocal microscope from Bruker Corp. integrates confocal imaging with photoactivation for live-cell and small-organism imaging, and for applications including the kinetics of photoactivatable fluorescent proteins and fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP).

Based on a proprietary swept-field imaging scanner, the system includes a second scanner for photoactivation/bleaching/ablation that can operate concurrently with imaging. It can be coupled to both visible and multiphoton lasers, allowing use of the full range of photoactivatable molecules and photochemical techniques available. For multiphoton lasers, this function provides 3-D control over photoactivation.

A seven-position pinhole/slit aperture allows the instrument to be optimized for varying objective lens magnifications, enabling deeper tissue imaging compared with conventional disk scanning confocal microscopes.
