Canon Surface Reflectance Analyzer

Canon RA-532H, Surface Reflectance Analyzer (goniophotometer), is a compact, portable device capable of measuring gloss, haze, image clarity (IC), and BRDF (Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Function) in a single pass. Additionally, in November 2017, Canon has released its own new parameters, C20 and C60, which overcome the shortage of both IC and DOI (Distinctiveness of Image) when evaluating matte and textured surfaces as well as orange peel surface.

It employs a unique optical architecture along with Canon proprietary calculation algorithm to output four surface quantifying parameters that comply with applicable industry standard test and measurement methods: Gloss - JIS Z8741, ISO 2813 & 7668, ASTM D2457 & D523, DIN 67530; Haze - ISO 13803, ASTM E430; Image Clarity - JIS K7374; BRDF – one and two dimensions.

The compact unit houses high resolution color LCD screen, rechargeable internal Lithium Ion battery, wired (USB), and wireless (Bluetooth) interface. Added feature, unique to Canon, is a “LIVE VIEW” function that allows positioning the RA-532H to exact measurement location with ease.

Bundled software comes complete with data extraction from RA-532H, full data analysis (including 1D and 2D color BRDF profiles), data import/export, remote control of RA-532H, and automated (timed) measurements.

RA-532H can quantify and maintain surface quality of such as LCD screen, automotive exterior and interior, paint, pint, film, stone, metal, plastic, and more. It is one of many new industrial products that incorporate Canon’s years of experience in sensors, image recognition, and image processing.
