3D Laser Triangulation

3D Laser Triangulation - A technology that allows sensors to probe the surroundings. Laser triangulation systems have an ideal operating point, or the standoff distance, where its reflected spot is in the center of the detector. Unlike a system using time-of-flight sensors, a system with 3D laser triangulation has limited range but high accuracy and relative insensitivity to illumination conditions and surface texture effects. The accuracy of triangulation rangefinders is on the order of tens of micrometers. The technology has multiple applications in industry, cultural heritage, medicine, criminal investigation, and scanning and inspection.
