image plane holography

A hologram in which the image of an object, or the object itself, is located near the hologram recording plane, for optimum image reconstruction. Because the images are close to the hologram plane, reconstructions from this kind of hologram using extended white light sources are relatively sharp. The most convenient method of image plane holography is to use a lens to image a given object near the hologram recording plane. Other methods include substituting the lens with either a hologram or zone plate. These methods are preferred over physically placing the object itself near the hologram recording plane.
