lens mount

The metal tube that maintains the optical components of a lens in proper relationship. Some lenses are mounted in metal cells, which in turn are screwed to the front and rear of a shutter or lens barrel. A lens mount often contains a central iris diaphragm to control the aperture. Some lens mounts are equipped with a threaded focusing device to move the whole lens, or with a provision for focusing by a longitudinal movement of the front element.
