momentum transfer

In physics, momentum transfer is the amount of momentum transferred from one particle to another during particle collision or interaction. This phenomenon can be utilized in various areas of physics and optics including condensed matter physics and diffraction on the atomic scale. Momentum transfer is a fundamental aspect of thin film coating techniques in which particles of a sputtered thin-film coating material receive energy from ions bombarding the surface and then fly off the target and onto the substrate to be coated.
