near-ultraviolet light source

A light source, such as the sun or an incandescent lamp, that freely penetrates ordinary glass bulbs and emits in the near-ultraviolet (wavelengths ranging from about 300 to 400 nm). A mercury vapor lamp has one strong emission line at 365 nm; sun-lamps usually have colorants added to their glass envelopes that render them opaque to visible radiation but transparent to the near-ultraviolet.
