Verdet constant: A factor of an equation of the Faraday effect, which is the rotation of the plane of light polarization by transparent materials in a magnetic field. Therefore, in the equation:

where a is the angle of rotation, is the depth of the medium transversed by the light and H is the power of the magnetic field; w represents the Verdet constant.
