Young's two-slit interference

The method by which Thomas Young in 1802 disproved Newton's corpuscular theory of light by the formation of interference patterns between two beams of light from the same source. This was produced by the splitting of the beam by two slits, set close together, after the light from the source had passed through a single slit parallel to the two. The interference that occurs in the overlapping of the two beams can be viewed when a screen is placed within the beams.
