aberration sensor (wavefront sensor)

An aberration sensor typically refers to a component or feature in optical systems, especially in telescopes or cameras, that detects and quantifies aberrations. Aberrations are imperfections or deviations from ideal optical performance that can distort images or reduce clarity. The sensor helps identify these aberrations, which can include various types such as chromatic aberration (color fringing), spherical aberration (blurring), and coma (distortion towards the edges of the image). By detecting aberrations, the sensor assists in correcting or minimizing them, thereby improving the overall quality of the optical system's output.
