degree of coherence: A quantitative measurement of the coherence of a light source; equal to the visibility (V) of the fringes of a two-beam interference test:

where I_max equals the intensity at a maximum of the interference pattern and I_min equals the intensity at a minimum. A value greater than 0.88 indicates highly coherent light.
