microphotometer: An instrument capable of measuring the transmitted or reflected luminance from a very small area seen under a microscope. Microphotometers are the fundamental tools of microphotometry and are also used in conjunction with microdensitometers to measure the relative optical densities (i.e. optical absorbance) of an optical film or surface as done in the field of microdensitometry.
