multichannel spectral analyzer: A spectrometric instrument that detects radiation simultaneously in multiple channels, sorts it spectrally from the deep ultraviolet to the infrared, digitizes the information and stores it for processing and analysis channel by channel. Such devices are capable both of high-detection sensitivity, making possible spectral measurements at very low light levels, and of high-acquisition rates of ultrashort phenomena. Often called an optical multichannel analyzer.
