multijunction device

A photovoltaic device that consists of multiple p-n junctions to produce a greater efficiency when in use than that of traditional single junction devices. A multijunction device is unique because each of its cells has been optimized for a specific wavelength of light. Before reaching the p-n junctions - each of which is adjusted for a different wavelength of light - the incident spectral light is divided according to its wavelength and directed to the appropriate cells.
