phototelegraphy

A document-transmitting process that uses a cylinder that rotates the document to be scanned and detected by a photoelectric cell. The cell transforms the light into electrical energy that may be transmitted by a wire or radio. Electrical impulses at the receiving end manipulate a similar light beam that records the image of the document on a rotating cylinder of sensitized paper. Facsimile is a form of phototelegraphy.
