radiographic amplifier screen

A solid-state panel of the photoconductor-electroluminescent type. The photoconductive layer, sensitive to x-rays, is coated by the electroluminescent, which gives the visible image. When the former layer is exposed to x-rays, the latter emits a pattern that corresponds exactly to the pattern of incident x-rays. The screen then serves to convert x-rays into visible images with energy gain and without significant time delay.
