Dubbed North America’s leading showcase of machine vision and imaging components and solutions, this year’s Vision Show will feature a new certification program for vision professionals. Held at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston from May 25 to 27, 2010, this year’s show will feature seven tutorials and seven sessions that will be taught by industry experts offering highly valuable training from both the vision and automation sides of the system. New this year, professionals can attend the four basic tutorials specified in the program and then take a written exam to receive an Automated Imaging Association (AIA) ‘Certification Vision Professional—Basic Level’ certificate. This is the first of three planned CVP levels designed to help advance company professional worth. The four basic tutorials include the fundamentals of machine vision, beginning lighting and optics for machine vision, basic vision software and algorithms, and camera and image sensor technology basics. Other classes include designing real time high speed systems, advances in LED lighting and lighting techniques, machine vision solutions using non-visible imaging, trends enabling vision guided robotics advances, and the future directions for camera interface technologies, among others. Robert Harris, vice president of marketing and product development at Panasonic’s broadcast and television systems division, will deliver the keynote address May 25. Titled, “The Business of 3-D,” the presentation will provide a comprehensive overview of 3-D technology, including new applications and opportunities of the technology. Also May 25, attendees can gather at the Hard Rock Café’s Cavern Club for the Vision Networking Party. Attendees and exhibitors are welcome to enjoy networking, food, drinks and Boston’s own blues/rock band, Ernie and the Automatics. Free to all attendees, the new product presentation theater will offer product presentations given by exhibitors throughout the day. The theater will offer participants to learn directly from the supplier and ask questions relevant to its needs. Products at the show will include complete vision systems, cameras and smart cameras, frame grabbers, lighting equipment, lenses and optics, sensors and smart sensors, and vision processors and software. The event is presented by AIA, a global machine vision trade group serving approximately 300 member companies from 30 countries.
