Meller Optics Inc. has released a full line of contaminant-free pitch for optical lapping, blocking and polishing.

Gugolz Polishing Pitch is ready to use simply by slicing the amount required, melting it and pouring it onto the lap, without the need for screening, filtering or mixing additives, according to the company. Made from all-natural wood resin rather than petroleum byproducts, the pitch comes in five grades — from very soft to very hard — with melting points from 52 to 87 °C. The grades are fully compatible to allow users to achieve their own grades of hardness.

The pitch helps prevent contamination of polishing media and substrates because of the wood resin, the company says.
