oOpticalThe S8334 and S8335 Si/GaAs PIN photodiodes from Hamamatsu Corp. are designed for use in Fibre Channel and Gigabit Ethernet optical networks. They offer a dynamic range of -25 to +3 dBm, a data transmission rate of 500 Mb/s, a rise time of 1000 ps and photosensitivity of 3 V/mW. The receivers operate over a temperature range of -20 to +70 °C and, the company says, maintain high performance under extreme weather conditions. The S8334, housed in a TO-18 package, has an active area of 0.4 mm. The S8335 is available in five packages, each with a different connector or mounting style. Both devices have an integrated transimpedance amplifier.
