A compact, computer-controlled, noncontact laser profile scanner is available from Optical Gaging Products Inc. Its low-power laser produces high-resolution, 2-D profiles that can be analyzed using the company's scan software. The device can be used on a benchtop, mounted, installed on a production line for in-process measurement or placed directly on or over a larger component. It includes a range of interchangeable laser sensors with available Z-axis resolution to 0.125 µm and is suitable for measuring fragile or pliable parts in applications such as connector lead spacing, lead frames and component profiling.
