Pacific Silicon Sensor Inc. has introduced the PSS-AD230-2.3G-TO5, an avalanche photodiode with a 230-µm diameter that is housed with a high-speed transimpedance amplifier in a hermetically sealed TO-5 can. The instrument responds to light in the 350- to 1000-nm range and is suitable for free-space optical communications and other high-speed data transfer applications. It provides an output of 40 mV peak to peak for an input of 1 µW at 880 nm, achieving a data bandwidth of up to 2.3 GHz.
