General Photonics says its PCS-1000 polarization scrambler uses all-fiber technology to effectively randomize polarization states, providing low insertion loss and backreflection, no wavelength dependency and low residual phase modulation. The device removes the measurement uncertainties when testing a device's polarization sensitivity. Scrambling the state of polarization suppresses performance degradation from polarization-dependent gain in optical amplifiers. Polarization scrambling also can be used to facilitate and simplify polarization mode dispersion emulation.
