Coherent Inc.'s Semiconductor Div. has developed a coaxial imaging accessory (CIA) that includes either a color or monochrome CCD camera and antireflection-coated optics. The imaging accessory is suitable for integration into automated machine gantry systems used in high-volume-production direct-diode laser soldering, marking, welding, heat treating and adhesive curing. It provides direct on-axis, fixed-focus imaging of the laser beam at the work surface. The company says the CIA can be used with any high-power fiber-coupled laser via its SMA 905 connector. The 1/2-in. CCD provides 768 x 494 effective pixels, a horizontal resolution of 570 TV lines and a signal-to-noise ratio of 60 dB.
