The RLE10 fiber optic laser encoder from Renishaw Inc. is an interferometer-based system that provides multiaxis capability from a single remote laser source. This laser encoder uses fiber optic links to deliver the laser beam directly to each axis-measuring position, which reduces optical path complexity and thermal drift and eliminates the need for beam benders, resulting in a minimal footprint. The system includes a compact low-power detector head that houses the interferometer, reference path optics, fringe detection and beam steerer. It is available in various configurations for linear or planar applications such as semiconductor and flat panel display manufacturing equipment, fiber optic alignment machines, coordinate measuring machines, precision gauges, X-Y stages and glass grinding machines.
