The 905(P)-E variable ratio coupler from Canadian Instrumentation & Research Ltd. can be remotely controlled via piezoelectric actuators. A differential micrometer and lever system with a 25:1 ratio allows precise transverse motion. Interaction length is set by longitudinal translation screws at the ends. The fibers' cutoff wavelengths range from 450 to 1550 nm, and the functional bandwidth extends from the single-mode cutoff wavelength to about 1.3 times the cutoff. Typical polarization isolation at room temperature is -20 dB, and loss is typically 0.1 dB, with a maximum of 0.2 dB. Termination choices include FC/SPC, FC/APC and 5-mm-diameter glass capillary tube with ends polished at an 8° angle.
