Oz Optics Ltd. has released an electrically operated polarization controller that provides near-negligible insertion and return losses. The device has four birefringence transducers, each controlled by an analog input signal, with response speeds of >100 Hz. Suitable for polarization-dependent loss (PDL) control, it requires ±5 V to operate from 1290 to more than 1620 nm. The controller also is suitable for use in polarization mode dispersion modules and polarization scramblers for PDL measurement systems. The company says its redundant transducer design allows continuous control without having to reset the voltages.
