Keithley Instruments Inc. has released a fiber alignment photodiode meter that integrates laser diode fiber alignment and light-current-voltage characterization. Model 2502 provides analog feedback and a wide dynamic range that minimizes the number of range changes required during the alignment process. A built-in picoammeter resolves currents as low as 10 fA for more accurate dark current measurement, and a ±10-V/±100-V bias source can power a variety of photodetectors, including large-area and avalanche devices. The system's two channels can be used as separate, complete source/measure units or combined to measure parameters such as coupling efficiency between a laser diode module and the pigtailed fiber.
