Switchable optical drop/add modules for wavelength management have been released by Alliance Fiber Optic Products Inc. These compact devices can be configured with 100- and 200-GHz spacing on the ITU grid. The single-channel, reconfigurable module integrates optical switching and DWDM filter functions, and the scalable four-channel module offers -3-dB insertion loss. The company says the four-channel device enables a flexible 40-channel band drop with no lost channels.
