The EDFC-980-HP erbium-doped C-band fiber is available from Nufern. The fiber, designed for use in single- or multistage amplifiers and ASE sources, can be powered with 980- or 1480-nm pumps. The company says the high-performance fiber features solution-doping technology that results in consistent and reproducible spectroscopy. The EDFC-980-HP has a peak absorption near 1530 nm of 6.0 +/-1.0 dB/m, a cutoff wavelength of 920 +/-50 nm, and a typical numerical aperture of 0.23. The fiber also shows a core-clad concentricity error of <0.3 µm for low splice loss, and a standard 200-kpsi proof strength.
