The G8930 InGaAs avalanche photodiode from Hamamatsu Corp. is suitable for a variety of communications applications. The photodiode offers typical -5-dBm overload and -31-dBm sensitivity at a maximum response of 2.5 Gb/s. The device has 11-V/mW photosensitivity at both 1.31 and 1.55 µm. The company says that the preamplifier incorporated into its design helps keep power requirements low. A pigtail that accommodates SC/SPC, FC/SPC, MU and LC connectors also is included.
