Electronic Materials Inc. has introduced Optocast 3421, a single-component, silica-filled, low-viscosity UV- and heat-curable epoxy for fixturing and aligning optical devices in optoelectronic assembly applications. Cure shrinkage, controlled by the user, is <0.5%. Working life is three days and shelf life, when the apoxy is stored at 0 °C or lower, is six months. The adhesive exhibits a coefficient of thermal expansion as low as 12 ppm/°C, resulting in peak thermal cycle performance, and withstands temperatures up to 85 °C with 85% humidity.
