Meller Optics Inc. offers large ultraflat sapphire windows with outer diameters up to 6 in. ±0.010 in. The windows can be precision-polished and are available in prototype and production quantities. They are suitable for use as viewports, laser windows and front-surface optics. They feature a transmitted wavefront to λ/8, parallelism to 2 arc sec, 20:1 aspect ratios, 40-20 scratch-dig surface finishes and Moh 9 surface hardness for abrasion resistance. The company says the optics are resistant to water, most acids, alkalis and harsh chemicals to approximately 350 °C.
