An eight-way fiber optic remotely controlled switch/converter has been released by Electro Standards Laboratories. The QuickSwitch 5191 acts as a signal source and prevents optical signal loss. The company says the device allows access to up to eight fiber optic network ports from one computer. Features include built-in fiber optic-to-twisted-pair conversion and an LED display that indicates switch position and fiber link presence. Pushbutton switching eliminates the need to plug and unplug fiber optic patch cords, minimizing connector wear and increasing system reliability.
